Valerie G
My name is Valerie and I never imagined I'd be writing something like this, but here I am reaching out with hope, vulnerability and an ask that could change my life.
About 18 years ago I was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. I have end-stage kidney failure with only 15% kidney function. Constant fatigue, insomnia, pain, swelling, weakness and shortness of breath makes it difficult for me to function even at the basic level. The only long-term solution is a kidney transplant. I have never smoked, drank alcohol or did drugs. I live in Haliburton County, attend the Peterborough hospital nephrology clinic and I am hoping to get my transplant done in Kingston. It's possible to live with only one kidney. Even if you are not a compatible blood type, the paired exchange program is an option for recipient-donor pairs who have different blood types.
I am a mother of 2, grandmother of 5, dog mommy of 3 and cat mommy of 1. I worked full-time as an accountant and took great pride in helping my clients with their tax situations. I have had to give up many activities due to low energy levels. This includes spending time with my young grandchildren. I'm no longer able to walk my dogs, something they enjoy. Kidney disease has impacted me physically, emotionally and mentally. I hope that by sharing my story I can make a difference in the lives of others while finding a hero to become my living donor. Thank you.
