PATIENTS SEEKING DONORS

I am 29 years old and I had my son a day after my 20th birthday. He's my whole world and the reason I fight like I do. I have had one kidney transplant in 2014 which lasted almost 5 years before having to go back in dialysis in 2018. Since then, I've been on dialysis since awaiting a second kidney transplant. The longer I am on dialysis, the more complicated it gets. I have high antibodies which makes it more difficult to find a match for a second time.

I try to stay as positive I can and not show the people around me how much fear I truly have. In my free time I love to go to the gym, do things and make memories with my son. I'm very outdoorsy but also love being a girly girl. I hunt, fish, ski, travel, spend time with friends and family. I also have a small woodworking business that was very busy last year.

I went back to college after my son was born and completed my college diploma in administration. That was a large accomplishment for me. I hope once I get a transplant I can do some more traveling, make memories with my son, go swimming! That's one thing that I haven't been able to do due to central lines.

I'd also like to do more advocating for people like me, who are doing doing dialysis waiting for a kidney transplant so they don't feel so alone. If you are considering becoming a donor, please contact me or Kathy Schmidt, the Living Donor Coordinator at Humber River Hospital, at kschmidt@hrh.ca
