Kim H
Hi, my name is Kim, and I’m reaching out to share my story in the hope of finding a living kidney donor. I am 55 years old and I have polycystic kidney disease (PKD), a genetic condition that has led me to need a kidney transplant.
Before kidney failure affected my ability to work fulltime, I enjoyed my work as a medical transcriptionist at the University of Calgary and before that, as an orthopaedic massage therapist. I have been married to my wonderful husband for 22 years, and together, we share a love for animals and the simple joys of life. Our home is filled with love and laughter, thanks to our dog, Blue; our donkeys, Jose and Ten; our goat, Manny; and our barn cats, Cathy and Schmitty. They keep us on our toes and bring so much joy to our days..
When I’m not caring for our animals, I enjoy walking, gardening, and painting. I also love spending time with family and friends, as they are the heart of my life. I’m an 80’s girl at heart—I love the music (just not the big bangs or shoulder pads!).
Despite the challenges of PKD, I remain hopeful and positive. A kidney transplant would allow me to continue doing the things I love and spending precious time with the people (and animals) who mean everything to me.
I have a small family and no one in my family is able to donate for medical and work related reasons. If you are B, AB or O, bloodtype and would like to learn more about the process of becoming a living donor, I would be incredibly grateful to connect with you.
