PATIENTS SEEKING DONORS

John C

John C

I am a loving father and husband, brother and uncle. I used to enjoy traveling with my family, going camping, hikes, and working around the house and yard.

I was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in 2013, shortly after being diagnosed with diabetes. Routine bloodwork showed I had decreased kidney function and it was later discovered that both of my kidneys were damaged, likely due to prolonged medications I had been on as a child.

As I am adopted, I do not know many biological family members and this limits the potential for receiving a familial kidney donation. I was thrilled when my wife’s extended family members, friends and colleagues came forward to be tested to be living donors, but devastated when none were able to complete the full donor testing process for medical reasons.

I have been on dialysis since early 2023. I have found it to be a very difficult treatment and is taking a huge toll on my life. I am unable to work due to symptoms including extreme fatigue, muscle cramps, itchy skin and swelling in my feet and ankles. Because of dialysis, I cannot work, travel, swim, or even have a bath.

I have found refuge in attending University as it gives me a purpose each day. I recently completed a Bachelor of Business Administration, Major Human Resources and began my Master of Community Planning degree.
