Jason P
I am 52 years of age, married to a wonderful partner and have two beautiful children. I love food and travel - whatever country we go to, we always try something different or something new.
At home, I have been a federal public servant for almost 30 years and work in occupational health and safety and environmental protection. I have known I had IgA Nephropathy at the young age of 25 and then diagnosed with Type II Diabetes at age 29.
My kidney function started to decline immediately after the COVID pandemic and after a frightening incident in February 2025 which took me to the Ottawa Hospital, I started kidney dialysis immediately afterwards. The medical care team at the Riverside Hospital is absolutely amazing and has provided me the opportunity to live a good lifestyle while on hemodialysis and while I wait for a kidney transplant.
Unfortunately, for my blood type, I am aware that it may be a 8 to 10 year wait unless I can find a living kidney donor. I am hopeful someone will come forward to get tested as a potential living donor. Even people who are not an O blood type could consider donating through the Paired Donor Exchange which is a national service that connects patients and potential donors with other pairs that do not match.
If you are intersted in finding out more please contact me or Living Kidney Donation Program at the Ottawa Hospital at livingkidneydonor@toh.ca or 613-738-8400 x 82719
