In 1976, I received deceased donor transplant, 11 days before my 21st birthday. What a great gift - you can only imagine how happy I was.
The kidney was an excellent one because it started working from the moment it was transplanted. Five years after my transplant, I had a son and now I have two wonderful grand kids. That kidney lasted for 45 years.
However, last June, I had to restart peritoneal dialysis which I now do three times a day. My prayer is that I can get a second transplant so that I can spend more time with my family.
