Hi, I am Christina. I am originally from Sparta, Greece. I have lived in Canada since I turned 19 when I married and started a family. I have 3 children and 4 grandchildren.
Being an immigrant to a country where I had to learn a new language and culture has been hard, but also rewarding. I arrived with nothing, but worked hard to buy a home and put my 3 children through university. For many years, I helped with the caregiving of my grandchildren, which brought me enormous joy.
I love to garden in my backyard. Growing vegetables and tending to my garden brings me a sense of purpose, and serenity. I also cherish my time creating mouth watering dishes in my kitchen, using recipes passed down from my mother and grandmother.
Even in my 70's, I have always been very healthy but 3 years ago I had a knee replaced which became infected and ultimately an allergy to the antibiotics caused kidney damage. I have been on dialysis for over 2 years now.
I used to love returning to Greece for visits, to my little village on top of a mountain. There I would tend to my fruit and olive trees, go for long walks, as well as reconnect with old friends and family. Swimming in the sea was also one of my favourite activities.
Many parts of my life have been impacted by my reliance on haemodialysis, and although it saddens me, I continue to share love for life, hope, faith and gratitude for each day God has blessed me with. I am hopeful someone may consider being my kidney donor.
